Winter Blues

Mid-Winter can be a time of great fun for kids, but for those living in areas with less sunlight, or extreme cold that limits outdoor time, it can be a time of increased moodiness, restlessness, and melancholy. For those kids who experience less time in the sun, extra vitamin D may be beneficial. Your pediatrician and pharmacist should always be consulted when considering a vitamin supplement. Physical activity is essential. If weather prohibits outdoor activity, finding ways to "get moving" indoors often greatly increases mood, regulates sleep, and aids in focus. Dance to music, visit an indoor recreation facility (gym, climbing facility, trampoline park, etc.), or play games inside that get kids up and going. Encourage kids to bundle up and play outside whenever possible, try out a winter sport, or take a walk together. And remember....Spring is just around the corner!
